Evington Valley Primary School
One World Project
A year or two ago a group of pupils told us that they liked to make up plays to perform in front of the green shed that stores our outdoor equipment. We kept this in mind until the opportunity came to apply for some funds from Leicester City Council to make it more interesting and beautiful.
Late last year we ran a competition for everyone in the school to create a design for the shed. We had a fantastic response and a tremendous amount of entries. With the help of our school council we chose a winning design by Rahima in class SS.
Now we had the design we had to transfer it onto the green shed which was not an easy task. The shed had to be sanded down, undercoated and then the map of the world outlined onto it. With the help of Miss Munshi and Mrs Govaria this was easily achieved.
While our Premises officer Mr Bland was working outside on the shed. Mr Preston was working with Rahima and others to paint the figures which had been cut out by Stuart Hicking and the Waterfront Academy. The Waterfront Academy is a community youth facility which supports young people, provides them with advice in a safe and supportive environment.
During Easter we will be fixing the figures to the shed so that the artwork is complete for the start of the summer term
Once this was done we could then paint the shed but, because of bad weather, we had a long job on our hands.
Over the Easter Holidays Rahima and her family came in and helped fix the figures they had been painting onto the 'One World Artwork' with the help of Mr Hicking, Mr Bland and Mr Preston.
Well done Rahima on a wonderful design.
A massive thanks to Mr Stuart Hicking and Mr Preston for their support and creative help.
